Founder/Director Jamie Smith

Founded in February 2026, Caledonia Safety Solutions is led by director Jamie Smith, a local to Oban with a strong practical background. Beginning his career as an electrician in the area, Jamie developed a hands on understanding of workplace risks and the importance of effective safety measures in day to day operations.

Alongside his trade, Jamie served for ten years as a retained firefighter with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service while based in Burntisland, Fife. This experience strengthened his ability to respond to emergencies, assess risk under pressure, and protect both people and property in demanding situations.

Since moving into health and safety in 2010, Jamie has built extensive experience within the oil and gas industry, a fast paced and high risk sector. His work has focused on applying safety legislation in practical ways, managing onsite emergency response, and adapting systems to meet specific business needs while ensuring risks to people and the environment are effectively controlled.

With over 15 years experience in Health and Safety, Jamie is also a fully qualified professional holding:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate

  • NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Management Of Occupational Health and Safety

  • OPITO Gas testing qualifications

  • BS OHSAS 18001 now ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification
  • Fire Risk Assessment Qualifications

  • Preparing to Teach in the life Long learning Sector Qualifications

  • Lead Root Cause incident Investigation

  • Extensive experience in Confined Space Entry Spaces and high- risk activities
